In this age of tech and easy accessibility to the online world, it’s hardly surprising we’re becoming addicted to the online version of our life. With everything from ‘peak time posting’ to hearing imaginary notifications, here are the signs you’re addicted to social media…
- You’ve taken 2,644 pictures of your food before your main course
Your friend has picked up their fork but before they can get any further, you’ve shouted ‘STOP’. You must get that insta-worthy snap prior to them digging in and ruining the aesthetics of your meal. - You know the peak times to post on every social media platform
According to Huffington Post, on Instagram, this is at 5pm on a Wednesday so supposedly this is when you’d get the most likes… but I’m sure you already knew that? - If your Instagram theme isn’t on point, nor is your mood
Colour co-ordination, size co-ordination, angles, events; the pics have to be balanced and link on your profile or there’s a problem. However, I’m sure you wouldn’t let it get to that that… - You monitor post ‘likes’ by the minute
If the likes aren’t more than the number of minutes it’s been posted, then it’s getting deleted. And if it doesn’t get a like in a minute, then it’s certainly gone! - It’s the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night
The glow of the screen lingers late into the night and shines bright on your face before the day has even really begun. Endless hours are spent stalking randoms as you click on links from profile to profile, and soon enough you’re 8 weeks deep in someones timeline. - Conversations start with ‘I saw on Facebook’
Social media bares all… well, all you want it to anyway. You know what your friends get up to because you saw their Snapchat story, their tagged Facebook photos, their tweets; you know what they did at the weekend because your phone told you and you needed to know. - Your whole life is on Snapchat, literally, everything…
And this is how everyone knows what you were up to at the weekend… 1000 second stories from a night out, pictures of your dog, some distant relative with a filter on their face, etc etc… - You need to be the first person to post about something
If it’s happened, you need to be the first to let the world know… You want to be the first to post about that funny thing that happened on I’m a Celeb, or the goal in the football, or about the celebrity gossip, because if you’re breaking the news, your post is important… - You know the best place to find endless cat videos to procrastinate anything and everything
Everyone’s done it, nothing more to say. - Imaginary notifications haunt you
The phantom notifs often catch you out as you swear to hearing the faint pings or vibration buzzes of your phone notifications, only to check and there be nothing there.
After reading this, have your fears been confirmed? Are you addicted to social media, stuck to the screen in your own virtual world? It wouldn’t be surprising… Good luck kicking the habit!
