As a young girl I was moved around a lot for my parents work and so always found it different to feel grounded in a place I was assumed to call home. I was born in England but raise in Paris, Tunisia and Albania. Attending international schools throughout my childhood. Being able to experience different ways of life and cultures was amazing and it has now really added to my personal way of seeing life.
Although a downfall to moving around so much as a child was the fear of not fitting in any new place I had no choice but to settle in. As a young child joining any new school is a scary and big experience which we have all gone through. Yet joining up to around 5 more new schools than the average child it was a massive thing for me which filled me with a daunting worry. Although at every school I attended I did quickly find my feet and a good stable group of friends. One of my biggest memories of this fear was moving back to England at the age of 10.
We returned to the UK mid academic year which meant I had to be home schooled for the following months until there was a place for me at the local primary school to join going into year 5. Finding it difficult at first, adapting to the new curriculum and culture of the UK. After some time I eventually settled in and began to feel at home. Being about to fit in with the other children in my class.
Why the name Cyber Bully Buster?
The name Cyber Bully Buster was created because as a child my primary school had a group of year 6 students, including myself whom were dedicated to being the ‘bully busters’. Our role was to look out for the younger years in the playground at break and lunch time, monitoring what was going on and if anyone seemed to look like they were being targeted by bulling. Or if they simply looked alone and upset. Our purpose was to then step in and be mature and responsible to try and defuse the situation and let a teacher know. Also to reassure the victim that there was people looking out for them and that there was support and comfort available to them.
It is important that we are aware of the issue of cyber bullying and educate ourselves in ways of preventing it. I feel strongly about raising awareness about bullying of any sorts and want to reach out to those, especially young people who have been a victim of cyber bullying. From my own experiences of knowing how important it is to have a safe and comfortable environment to learn and grow up no matter who you are or where you are. Also being a witness of bullying and cyber bullying at first hand, my heart goes out to those effected and want greatly for people to know how serious this issue is.
Furthermore…
The internet can seem like a fantastic virtual playing ground from young people. Having so much offered to them. Interacting and communicating with one another at the click of a button. Little do some of us know the dangers that also come with having such a privilege. The internet opens up a damaging world and although we all should be able to enjoy technology that has been presented to us. We should also recognise the faults that come with it. We must take all the precautions that we can. Educating ourselves about cyber bullying and learning how to keep ourselves and young people safe online.
So join in helping to put an end to cyber bullying and preventing it from happening so often in the future. Below I have found a cartoon YouTube video created by Web wise Ireland. It demonstrates how cyber bullying takes place amongst young people at school. Mobile phones being the most popular used device to target victims. Watch it to get a good understanding on how cyber bullying can occur.
