Cyber Racism.
What does it mean I hear you ask? Let me enlighten you:
Cyber racism consists of:
- racist websites
- images
- blogs
- videos
- online comments a
- racist comments, images or language in text messages, emails or on social networking sites
That is a whole lot of things to cover. You might be wondering, how racist websites are allowed to exist, why aren’t they just filtered out. Well, the main reason being is that they have a pretty good demographic. If it was just one racist person alone in their room, then that site matters less than a white colouring pencil; however, the main reason these websites are so up-and-coming is because people do visit them, and they do partake in the growth of racism online.
Why So Much Hate Online?
Mainly because of the anonymity. People know that whatever you say online can (hopefully) not be tracked by anyone, so there aren’t any real repercussions, so they let lose and say all the nasty things that they keep in during their day to day lives. Some call them cowards, some call them productive – you decide what you think these people are. This inability to be tracked, has led many idiots – I mean – people to send hate to celebrities, politicians, athletes, along with the average Joe like you and me. It’s kind of like this, you are more likely to punch someone you hate if you were in front of them wearing some sort of disguise right? Same principal follows online.
Why Read This Blog?
Honestly? To have a conversation. Cyber racism is growing more and more in these past few years… no doubt due to the rise in power of a certain… orange… President-Elect. But we shall all fight a good fight, and every good cause starts with a nice conversation. Conversations about why racists are racists, how do they feel? How do the victims feel? Is there anything being done about this? Yeah, I get what you’re thinking, there are a LOT of questions to look at, and lots of answers to find. So let’s hope I can shed some much needed light in a conversation that is – as expected – very morbid.
See you soon!
