Top 10 YouTubers of the Year! Who To Watch?

January 18, 2017 by saskialong Leave a Comment

Throughout this blog post I’m going to talking about my all-time favourite YouTubers – some big and some up and coming! As someone who loves to surf YouTube for a ridiculous amount of time a day, I’ve viewed my fair share of daily vloggers, lifestyle YouTubers, beauty gurus and many more. So join me as I reveal my 10 most watched people of the internet… (this is going to hard to narrow it down!)

10. Gigi Gorgeous

Coming in at number ten is Gigi Gorgeous. I have adored Gigis videos right from the start when she was formerly known as Gregory. Her videos have been throughly enjoyable to watch as I feel she is one of the few YouTubers out there that has truely opened up to their audience and shown their true self. Through breaks up, sexuality and some personal challenges she’s had to face, it’s very inspiring to watch someone blossom.

9. Exploring With Josh

Now, this is a slightly different kind of YouTuber, but super interesting! This guys a smaller YouTuber but he travels all around the word exploring abandoned places. I think it’s a mix between the history of these places, or whether I’m just nosey, but if you’re interested in that kind of thing then he’s definitely one to check out! Million dollar mansions, hidden caves, haunted hotels and even planes. The content is really quite spectacular (or maybe I just like morbid stuff) , check out one of the videos below:

8. Shane Dawson

Shane is probably one of the most famous YouTubers out there, purely due to his long reigning YouTube existence. At number eight, Shane’s videos are highly enjoyable because of his crazy content. He makes the wierdest videos such as microwaving strange items, and creating all sorts of wacky and wonderful foods from across the globe. I love his video and frequently find myself going back to his videos, as I feel his childish humour is relatable to my own.

7. Jamie Laing’s Happy Hour

Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing seems to have found a new hobby with bringing his hilarious personality to YouTube, and it’s addictive!! Jamie is a smaller YouTuber but his content is great, or maybe I’m just in love with his overly posh accent. I feel he is a really kind hearted and positive person which really reflects in his content. He has lots of challenge videos with his fellow Made In Chelsea stars, pranks and lots of vlogging.

6. Fun For Louis

British YouTuber Louis Cole creates some of the best travel videos on YouTube. These are the sorts of videos that I love to watch. Louis has visited most countries around the world, even ones like South Korea where exploring is very limited. It is amazing to watch some travel the world, and all the hidden treasures within it. Louis is very down to earth with nature and has just dedicated his life to travel, digging into the depths of a countries culture.

5. Tana Mongeau

Tana creates some of the most bizzare, random content I have ever seen but her southern American accent is just so addictive. Tana does a lot of daily vlogging, of things that arent even that interesting, but she just makes it interesting! She does very honest story times. Her stalker story is also pretty intriguing and really odd, I suggest if you’re into watching spooky stuff like that, then give it a watch:

4. Meet The Vloggers

Meet The Vloggers are made up of three siblings that lead a lavish life of luxury. Their expensive purchases, cars, getaways are out to show to the whole world and they are not afraid to show. I think it’s their spontaneity that draws me into watching their videos, the fact they just jump on a plane and go to anywhere they desire! As I said before, I just love being nosey into the everyday antics of YouTubers.

3. Fly With Stella

In my top three, Stellas channel is one that I discovered very recently, but it certainly has me hooked! She is a flight attendant and she daily vlogs the life that she lives, and it’s really quite interesting to see. Sometimes you can be away for a week or so, and then back for a week, the schedule is completely hectic. Not only does she daily vlog some of the amazing places she gets to visit being a flight attendant, but she also talks about a lot of things that come along with living the liftstyle that she does, the pros and the cons.

2. Jeffree Star

I’m sorry but I had to include this one, I adore Jeffree Star and his sassyness. Don’t get me wrong, I do think he’s a complete diva, but his makeup videos are the best! Just because he does everything bigger and better than the rest of the YouTube beauty gurus. From crazy expensive makeup items to the stuff you’ll find in Superdrug, Jeffree has it all at both ends of the scale.

1. Casey Neistat

My top favourite YouTuber of all time has to be Casey Neistat. The way he films some of his videos, some with the drone, it’s crazy the amount of attention to detail, especially in his daily vlogs (which he sadly stopped doing recently). His life in NYC is very busy running a company he set up, yet he always finds time to create the coolest content. His travel videos are the most interesting, check out the one that he created on his trip to Vietnam with his son below:

Fake News

January 10, 2017 by saskialong 2 Comments

Fake news is becoming a part of our daily lives. Not only does media surround us but it also consumes us as we are pulled in by news stories on social media, newspapers, magazines and other forms of media outlets. So, what is this fake news that I speak of? Well, if you haven’t already heard the concept of fake news has been spreading across the globe, in a bid to amplify their effect and perhaps a use of propaganda towards views and attitudes. Fake news consists of hoax stories created by various online sources, a lot of the time with topics surrounding religion and politics. It has shown however that the epidemic that has been formed by fake news is having a detrimental effect on the real world. The reason that fake news is so prominent now is due to power behind social media. Whether you’re sharing on Twitter, YouTube or Facebook, the news is not only placed there to share with others or persuade, but to create an identity of a person, give people a community to fall into.

Now, let’s introduce you to some YouTubers that provide us with some coverage on the conflicted views of mainstream media (otherwise known as MSM). Below is a link to their channels!

Paul Joseph Watson – https://www.youtube.com/user/PrisonPlanetLive

Mark Dice – https://www.youtube.com/user/MarkDice

The Alex Jones Channel – https://www.youtube.com/user/TheAlexJonesChannel

Millennial Millie – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCglVbeKF9JGMCt-RTUAW_TQ

If you’re looking for some informative news about news sources and manipulation of the media, then be sure to head over to their channels.

To continue, we have seen some crazy and bizarre fake news stories recently, but the question is where does YouTube come into all of this chaos? YouTube is a outlet for many news broadcast networks to post videos clips from recordings of their shows. Some of the main news sources that have been under fire over the last few months have been CNN, Fox News and NBC. In particular throughout the coverage of the US election, the rivalry between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump was no word of a doubt stirred by the media. Many American broadcasters kept their left or right wing views as a central opinion, and this reflected in the news they were putting out to the public. Looking back on it now, many journalists are saying that fake news was a core problem during the presidential election. For example, CNN were consistent is their take on the election that Donald Trump would lose, trying to warn the public that the stock market will drop if Trump wins the race, trying to sway the votes of many. MSM have this authority over changing opinions, and they are using this power to their advantage.

Not just the broadcasters but their reporters themselves have been under scrutiny for encouraging the use of fake news in their own segments. Fox News star Megyn Kelly who hosts “The Kelly Files” has been criticised by many for her outspoken views. Kelly has previously made comments on news stories, focused solely on the race of those involved and no other factors. Her manipulation of news stories has come to the attention of viewers recently with the “Pizzagate” story. Going back “Pizzagate” is a conspiracy theory that Hilary Clinton is linked to a human trafficking ring connected to a string of restaurants, due to some coding in the leaked emails. This then led a Edgar Welch opening fire in Washington Pizzeria “Comet Ping Pong” During this passer by Jack Posobiec went inside and did a short Periscope on what the pizzeria looked like inside, before being escorted out. Although during reports of the “Pizzagate”, Megyn Kelly (Fox News) portrayed Posobiec as the perpetrator, when he was in fact not. This has indeed prompted her leave to NBC as many were not in favour of her segment anymore on daytime news. Watch the video below posted on Fox News’ YouTube channel for an interview with the pizzeria owner on “The Kelly Files” on how damaging the fake news stories have become.

YouTube has also been a source for it’s own fake news stories. The benefit and downfall of the site is that anyone can uploaded, whatever they like, whenever. Therefore some stories do get misconstrued along the way attempt to mislead people. People use actors in YouTube videos conveying that an event happened, when it in fact never happened. The below video shows a LiveLeak uploaded to YouTube which was done staging a Baghdad bombing carried out by ISIS. This was soon to be proven as a hoax and was performed by actors. It is unclear what the motive behind creating this video was, perhaps it’s an attempt to fight against the extremist group.

That was my little run down on fake news,

Till next time 🙂

Clickbait and Controversial YouTubers

December 24, 2016 by saskialong 7 Comments

Everywhere on the internet you’ll come across clickbait content. Whether you’re reading online news articles, scrolling on social media platforms or searching YouTube. As discussed in my last blog post, all clickbait doesn’t have to be a negative thing, it just depends on whether the content of the video is relevant to the title or thumbnail. YouTubers use their audience as an advantage and sometimes manipulate or trick them into clicking onto videos just to gain revenue. During my daily scroll of YouTube, I came across more than a handful of clickbait and controversial creators. Perhaps controversial for the wrong reasons too. Here are my top 5 most clickbait YouTubers out there:

  •   Adam Saleh – 2.4 million subscribers

Adam, who’s 23 years old from New York City has been under big scrutiny as of recently due to the content that he’s been creating. He posted a video earlier this week on his Twitter account aboard a Delta Airlines flight exclaiming that he was getting kicked off the flight for “speaking on the phone to his mum in Arabic'”. It has been of debate among many on social media on whether Saleh is telling the whole story, or in fact twisting the original story to create a filmin
g opportunity to then be uploaded on his channel. See the video at this link:https://twitter.com/omgAdamSaleh/status/811531782982078464.It has been reported by passengers on the Delta flight that Saleh was being disruptive on the flight, counting down in Arabic, attempting to scare the passengers on board. He has also been in adam-salehonline news this week because of his video “I SENT MYSELF TO ANOTHER COUNTRY” (a clickbait title), where he placed himself inside a suitcase with a camera for his one hour flight to Sydney. The video was soon was proven to be fake when Saleh was photographed going through check in. This makes viewers weary on whether Saleh’s intentions of his Delta video were genuine and he really was being subjected to racial subjection or whether he wanted to create negative tension surrounding the airline and publicity towards his channel. Saleh has previously posted videos trying to make a statement that a certain group eg. police are racist and discriminate those of a different race or religion, therefore makes it easy for us to believe that he was doing a similar thing with us towards Delta. Not only do these clickbait headlines mislead us, the relevant content is faked for the benefit of views.

  • PewDiePie – 50 million subscribers

27 year old Swedish YouTuber Felix Kjellberg is possibly one of the biggest creators of controversial and clickbait content. He even said when hit 50 million subscribers he would delete his channel. This was then covered by lotpewdiepies of news outlets, for PewDiePie then to say that it was a joke. It was also PewDiePie that very recently says in the video “YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS CLICKBAIT”, “I have to clickbait just to stay relevant”. Which if I’m honest is quite true, all YouTubers need to keep up with what’s a trend at the time if they want to stay on top. However, it can be argued that PewDiePie completely over uses clickbait titles and thumbnails to gain more viewers and advertising revenue, which perhaps could be the reason why he is the most subscribed YouTuber ever. Check out his humorous video of him investigating clickbait videos by popular YouTubers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHNbitDDW3A

  • LeafyIsHere – 4.5 million subscribers

21 year old Leafy otherwise known as Calvin Lee is known for causing drama with his other fellow YouTubers. Keeping up to date with Leafy’s channel over the last few days, his video titles consist of  ‘how long till youtube dies’ and ‘this girl wants me to go to jail for cyber bullying her’. Lee also has various playlists on his channel that he has created, one even called rants. Everyone knows that if you mention other YouTubers in a video title, that immediately creates clickbait because YouTuber feuds are what creates tension and views on the website. In his playlist ‘THE INTERNET’, the videos contain titles saying ‘THE WORST THING ON YOUTUBE’, people who know YouTube know that as soon as you make bold statements like that then you’re immediately creating clickbait.

youtuberVitalyztv – 9.2 million subscribers

Russian born Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, aged 24 years old is known for making very co
ntroversial videos. Vitaly is especially known for his prank videos, in particular getting the police involved with his infamous hitman videos. The famous YouTuber has also made some completely crazy videos,
including climbing the Hollywood sign in LA and getting his jaw
broken in a bull fight. Watch that video right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r007t5qYcZs&t=1s

blndsundoll4mj – 2.4 million subscribers

28 year old American Trisha Paytas is known on YouTube for being very open about her personal life on YouTube. She recently made YouTube news over the discovery that her boyfriend was actually gay. After this relevalation Trisha created a series of videos expressing how saddened she was by the news, however with very clickbait titles and thumbnails. To gain views Trisha has posted videos such as ‘my miserable christmas’ and ‘i have concussion right now’. It’s this outspoken attitude that Trisha has that brings her following in.

There was the top five, don’t forget to follow my Facebook and Twitter for updates.

Introducing YouTube and the World of Clickbait

December 14, 2016 by saskialong 2 Comments

YouTube. One of the biggest sites to create content on to date. The creators for that content have even coined the name “YouTubers”, alot making a living out of making videos from their bedrooms. The site was originally founded by three former Paypal employees in 2005, however later sold onto Google for a little over $1 billion dollars. 11 years on and the site countinues to thrive as a platform for users to connect on and discuss a range of topics. There is certainly nothing that you won’t find on YouTube, which is why it makes it such a popular website among all ages and audiences.

Creators have created a lifestyle around YouTube, some of the most popular ones include travel vlogger, daily vloggers, gamers and beauty gurus. Some even uploaded everyday in the form of a daily vlog or on by their main channel uploads. Some of these YouTubers since having their claim to fame of the net have merchandise, written books and even created or starred in TV shows or films. It has been a suspicion of the general public as to how much YouTubers actually make. The most subcribed YouTuber under the name of PewDiePie was estimated to have made around $7.5 million dollars with his 37 million subscribers at the time. With that number now reaching 50 million it’s a question on everyone’s lips what the fortune of the millionaire now lies at.
