The First of Many

We live in a digital world where technology has now changed every aspect of the way we live our modern lives. With social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube, as well as online magazines and websites, taking over our screens circulating the fitness industry, by posting content exposing the “correct” lifestyle and idealistic images of the male body. These body image pressures have been exacerbated by the growth in digital media. Our culture of browsing and scrolling through our mobile phones on a daily basis means it is almost impossible for the average male to avoid the sea of ripped, muscular men showing off their physiques; what is being defined as “masculine”. The fitness industry seems to be selling unrealistic expectations and contributes to the increasing pressure of having the “perfect” body leading to male issues such as using performance-enhancing drugs, creating unhealthy obsessions and suffering with depression.
