Turned me into a queen

You’re probably thinking “what is this random video link on Maryiam’s blog post today?”.
Well let me tell you what it is, this is one of the many songs that slowly brought me out of my funk.
You know how people say music has an effect on them, well this song had an affect on my whole perception of myself, with the celeb rap culture we live in today, women are CONSTANTLY being downgraded to the point where us females now believe this phrases they use in their lyrics are meant to be hailing us. I may have not been old enough to understand the lyrics when I was younger but the fact that the lyrics still speak volumes to this day shows that not much has changed, if I’m honest I would say things have gotten worse and thanks to the power of the internet it is now on a mass scale. We cannot hide from it, intact we are forced to r=embrace this trend of degrading one another, it’s in the music we listen to, in the music videos we watch, on our timelines and in our lingo. I have fallen in this trap many times but when I do feel as if I am falling back into my old ways I just throw this song on in the background and it reminds me why I began to empower and uplift myself. Personally I feel that there needs to be a lot more female encouragement between the average female and not just public figures and their followers retweeting it as if that contributes to the act. So here is my first act of female encouragement if you ever feel degraded or unappreciated take a quick listen to Queen Latifah’s lyrics it might just help you like it helped me.
