“The use of travelling is to regulate the imagination with reality, and instead of thinking how things may be, see them as they are” – SAMUEL JOHNSON
This is a video represents a summer of young adults travelling the USA and showing off how their summer has been. From this video, you’d think wow, what a life they lead travelling the world. But it’s not all as it seems…
It has become so easy now for the online realm to distort the media that we see. But do we even realise?
Created through my own experiences, this video represents the time I spent travelling with friends after all working at a sleepaway camp. Posting anything you want on social media is possible. I could post this on any social media platform for it then to have the ability to reach many naive followers. This passive audience would believe any information that is put with it. I have intentionally constructed this video to show how easy it is to create something that is posted online that is not the real truth and is distorted for the viewer’s satisfaction. As the creator of this video, I have the ability to manipulate the footage I have into anything I want it to be. Using visual and audio aids contribute to creating something that is so different to its original form.
Sadly, as amazing the experience was, the reality is we had about $10 to live off a day. Arguments over plans and it were making everyone miserable (which is all edited out the footage shown). The journeys that you see were enjoyable. But due to delays, 12-hour coach journeys with odd smelling passengers and much more that the audience can’t see some aspects weren’t as glamorous.
