So who is the conscious student? I’m Katie, a university student at Bournemouth currently studying communication + media. I have been vegetarian now for around 10 years, I was never much of a meat eater before but a run in with my home tech teacher in secondary school and a packet of raw mince put me off for life! None of my family thought I could stick to this new change so that only made me more determined to prove them wrong. Stubbornness can be great for transition to meat free.
Initially I was fine, but then the cravings for bacon kicked in! Even now the smell of bacon makes me question my vegetarian status. After a while it was just something I got used to, I had no desire to eat meat. But as I got older and discovered the gruesome documentries on netflix on the food industry I questioned if I could go vegan and cruelty free? There are dozens of documentaries out there that show the shocking reality of the meat industry, enough to turn the biggest meat eater off. But they are no doubt a hard watch and not for everyone, I did find giving up meat fairly easily but giving up dairy was not something I even considered until recently.
I stopped drinking milk and eating eggs last summer but I have found cheese impossible to give up. I have even read you can have a cheese addiction! But as it becomes more popular to turn to the vegan lifestyle in society, it’s now or never. It is obvious there is now a demand for this new lifestyle, most resturants now accomodate for vegans and have amazing vegetarian options and even big beauty companies are moving to cruelty free.
So follow me to see my journey to (hopefully) full veganism.
