Who am I and what is Fighting The Stigma about?
Hello and welcome to Fighting The Stigma, a mental health awareness blog. My name is Hannah, I’m a second year Bournemouth University student and I’m keen to make people aware of the seriousness of mental health. Hence this is why I have chosen this subject to be the focus of my blog.
Taboo and misunderstanding surrounding mental health has gone on for far too long, so talking about it and sharing our experiences is key to fighting the stigma. According to the mental health charity Mind, 1 in 4 of us in the UK will suffer from a mental illness each year. This figure is truly mind-blowing and just goes to show that there are more people suffering than a lot of us think.
Here at Fighting The Stigma, the majority of posts will focus on how web and mobile communication can affect the mental health stigma, both positively and negatively. As well as this, it is likely that I will be sharing some personal experiences of mental illnesses to help create awareness.
