Online dating and it's effect on modern relationships
We are bought up to believe that choice is the best thing for us. Whether it’s supermarkets stocking different versions of what is essentially exactly the same item, 20 different colours of the same top or thousands of different eligible bachelors or bachelorettes on your chosen online dating platform. The premise is, if there’s loads of choice, there must be someone out there for you. This is what attracts so many people to online dating.
Online dating allows users to simply never message back if a date doesn’t work out. It gives users the option to ‘opt out’ of a break-up or any kind of difficult conversations. Ghosting has to be one of the most upsetting aspects of online dating. As I mentioned in my last blog post, there’s a lot of pressure that is involved in online dating and these feelings of stress and anxiety are only heightened for victims of ghosting.
I am a stressy, anxious person. It’s just who I am and for me, there have certainly been times where Tinder was too much pressure. This post is more personal than matter of fact. People who are confident about their online presence and love social media may not feel this way, which is great. But for those bundles of anxiety like myself, this one’s for you.
