Hello my friends, I want to tell you guys my story and why I wanted to start this cyber bullying blog as well as my reasons for continuing it…

As a child I was incredibly shy, I hated talking to people, which made me really anxious so I really struggled making friends. Throughout puberty I was self-conscious mostly over my weight, as a result of being bullied for being a rather big girl. I hated going to school because of it but never plucked up enough courage to tell anybody about it.

In my final years at school however there was a chance to become a counselor. I would have to talk to my classmates about how they were, see if they were struggling with anything. My Mum forced me to sign up in the hope that it would open me up a bit. It would force me to talk to people and maybe show them that I wasn’t as much of a loser as I thought I was.  I got the job! and so I had to start talking! I hated every minute of it but I felt good for doing it.

Cyber Stop!

Every year the counselors had to come up with something to do for the school. All of us together decided that we wanted to do something about the bullying problem. What we created was a Bully Buddy Bench.The idea being if you were being bullied you could sit on the bench, one of us would come over and talk to you to try to sort any problems out. Bearing in mind we were only 13 at the time we felt like we were the most mature and responsible people in that playground and we relished in it. The bench was a success! It is still there now nearly 10 years after it was put in there. Bullying has always been a problem and I hated seeing people upset from being targeted.

The fact that cyber bullying is now such a huge problem I think it is so important to keep awareness up for bullying in general. It’s often pushed away like people are just not seeing it any more.  I know how it feels to be victimized by bullies and I have seen people change from the effects of being bullied. I want children to be able to go to school and college or what ever it is they are doing and feel safe. The continual promotion for people being bullied needs to continue, and you guys can help stopping it happening in the future!

What can you do?

There are lots of websites out there that are aimed at educating people. They show you how to talk to someone if you know they are being bullied. Childline have lots of different links that can help with all sorts of bullying.
