On the 2nd of October 2016, Kim Kardashian was robbed at her Paris hotel room at gun-point. The robbers were reported to have escaped with a box containing $6.7 million worth of valuables, as well as a $4.5 million ring. Thankfully Kim was unhurt however she was badly shaken.

Whether you like Kim Kardashian or not, to be robbed at gun-point must be terrifying and no one deserves that. However, as you can expect, there were all sorts of mixed reactions. Unfortunately, but not unsurprisingly, the majority were negative. Tweets such as “Kim K deserved to be shot last night” and “Kim Kardashian got famous from a leaked sex tape and people feel sorry for her. She got what she deserved” were posted not long after the news broke. As well as this, an online fancy dress shop advertised a Kim Kardashian robbery costume.

No, Kim Kardashian did not deserve to be robbed at gunpoint because she is famous from a leaked sex tape. She did not deserve to be robbed because she annoys you. She did not deserve to be robbed because she takes nude selfies. She is a human being, a daughter, a mother, and she does not deserve to have her life put in danger to then have the world mock it.

Pretty much every time Kim Kardashian does anything, the fact that she is famous from a leaked sex tape is brought up. As if it is her fault. As if she wanted the world to shame her for making a private sex tape with her boyfriend at the time. It was released without her consent. If someone did that to you, exposed you like that to the whole world, if someone did that and you knew that you could use this to your advantage, wouldn’t you do the same? I have asked that question to so many people and their response has always been “of course I would, who wouldn’t?”. Kim Kardashian has built a multi-million dollar empire off the back of someone betraying her trust and she gets shamed for it. She has reclaimed her body through nude shoots and selfies and has picked herself up from something that would ruin most people’s lives.

Yet she is still the bad guy.

To be robbed at gun point is an ordeal no one would wish to go through. But through every negative Tweet, Facebook status or Instagram post the general consensus is that she deserved it. Because she shows off her jewellery, because she is rich, because she didn’t have her bodyguard with her, because she is ‘talentless’, or because she is a woman unafraid to show her sexuality.

You don’t have to like Kim Kardashian. But as a human being you must recognise that what happened to her is something no-one deserves.
