Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian and the most important K of all – (or so he likes to think) – Kanye, are all products of fame and fortune. Sex tapes and scandals were the start for this family and suddenly Keeping Up with the Kardashians\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0launched them into the spotlight and they’ve never looked back from their social media followings. However debates on whether they deserve their fame have been following them since episode one.<\/p>\n There’s no doubting that they have their talents, Kendall Jenner proved herself to be a successful model, even more recently, by landing herself a spot as an Angel in 2015. For those who aren’t familiar with the concept, she landed a serious career coup by becoming a Victoria Secret Fashion Show Angel\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0and walked the runway in some pretty amazing get ups (cue females being utterly jealous*). Social media has been a huge factor in her rise to fame; the app Instagram is full of fan accounts with images of her plastered everywhere and her own personal account currently has over 70.2 million followers.<\/p>\n Last month she caused mass panic by temporarily removing her account with no explanation and to say fans went into meltdown would be an understatement. Instagram is a way for ordinary everyday folk to feel connected to the lifestyle of a young celebrity and with that connection suddenly dissipated they could no longer follow along and watch as she shared and interacted with the world. She spoke on the Ellen DeGeneres show saying<\/p>\n \u201cI just wanted to detox,\u201d\u00a0Jenner\u00a0told DeGeneres.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI just wanted a little bit of a break. I would wake up in the mor<\/strong>ning and look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it would be the last thing I looked at. I felt a little too dependent on it so I wanted to take a minute.\u201d<\/strong> The fact that it made worldwide news is a clear example of how social media communication has changed the aspect of fame and what it means to be ‘famous’. With the correct amount of followers and having a name that almost everyone recognises it’s a pretty certain quick shot way to reach stardom.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The legend that is Madonna doesn’t seem tobe a fan of the generation of social media creating fame, in an article<\/a> she claimed\u00a0“Fame is the manifestation or the by product of my work, and that was two decades before social media”. The concept of what a celebrity is and what it means to be one has changed significantly since the rise of digital communication apps with each individual attempting to “break the internet”.\u00a0Now I’m sure you all remember the moment Kim Kardashian “broke the internet” back in 2014 for PaperMag<\/a>. Her presence in the media was inescapable after that moment, with the photos of her balancing a champagne glass on her *clears throat* prominent behind landing on every social website, magazine and app.<\/p>\n The Kardashian clan are just one of many examples of how social media has altered the means to gaining celebrity status. With such a tool as the internet by our sides, quite literally anyone can become famous and make a name for themselves.<\/p>\n When you think about it, what is it that they do that makes them so addictive to us ? Why do we still tune in every week and like every post and tweet they publish? Do the Kardashians have some kind of mystical powers and Kris Jenner, or ‘Momager’ (mom\/manager) is the leader bewitching us all ?<\/p>\n Or is it quite simply how we are programmed to function?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Wardrobe malfunctions.
