You now have <em>Sir<\/em> Anthony Hopkins and his brand new logic to hide behind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Or not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I mean Westworld is <em>more<\/em> a study about the complexity of human nature and desire, with an underlying plot surrounding the immense technological progress that human beings could stumble across: developing artificial consciousness and reinventing what the term \u2018entertainment\u2019 could mean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And Qu1rkyGirl92 is <em>more<\/em> likely a 52-year-old man with a passion for taxidermy and World of Warcraft.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But Westworld, as an example, got me thinking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">What are the chances that technology could progress to a point where friends, villains and even lovers could be artificially created from thin air? What would the backlash against this consist of? And who would indulge in such a seemingly impossible technology?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And then I realised. This has been around for years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Think about group chats, friend requests, online communities creating friendships between strangers from such tenuous links.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dating websites- constantly\u00a0sparking relationships which have led to lifelong marriages, for people who would never have come across each other otherwise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And finally internet trolls and cyber bullies- quietly filling out the villainous roles of the internet community. [<em>but you knew that. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.buprojects.uk\/2016-2017\/samuelmilligan\/2016\/12\/27\/episode-1-recurring-menace\/\">#Episode1:ARecurringMenace<\/a><\/em>]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><u>Instant Gratification<\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Much like the Man in Black in Westworld, it\u2019s not difficult to become addicted to this \u2018certain\u2019 kind of lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/235088\">Neil Patel<\/a> has detailed a particular kind of pleasure taken from what is known as \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/235088\">instant gratification<\/a>\u2019. And now that we are always <em>plugged in<\/em>, the dreaded idea of having to <em>wait<\/em> is minimalised existentially.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We are given instant feedback on our status updates, tweets and video uploads via a \u2018liking\u2019 or \u2018favouriting\u2019 system, and a comments section allows for quick-fire conversations between uploaders and viewers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We\u2019re even instantly told when a message has been sent, when it\u2019s been received and when it\u2019s been seen. Just to provide that extra little bit of anxiety about whether or not someone likes you to your daily routine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In a way, addiction to this instant-access-kind-of-deal, is almost impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It justifies why as a nation we find our heads buried in our mobile phones on every public transport service we can. Are you really being rude by not talking to sweaty strangers, if what you\u2019re actually doing is reading equally sweaty strangers\u2019 Facebook rants?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Also, the rise in this \u2018instant-messaging\u2019 format, has caused human beings\u2019 service expectations to rise dramatically. Everyone wants everything instantly now, and as a result, business ideas have flourished.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Delivery services can now be at your doorstep at an exact time on an exact day, with specific instructions precisely communicated between the deliverer and the deliveree.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">24\/7 chat services or phone lines satisfy customers immeasurably, and are becoming more and more common.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And it even begins to explain why such click-bait advertisement titles work so well. <em>Gain 6 pack abs in 6 minutes?<\/em> Why the hell not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>The Drawbacks<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yes, yes, instant services and 24 hour phone lines all sounds pretty good so far. But maybe that\u2019s a bad thing?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Relationships develop through consistent conversational transactions in the real world. It can really take time before you get to like someone, and not just their status updates (Hence developing the \u201cCheers\u201d factor).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And yet, somehow I\u2019m \u2018best mates\u2019 with some John Doe with a cocker spaniel and four ex-wives just because we frequent the same sub-reddit page, and he sometimes pokes me on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I wouldn\u2019t dream of <em>poking <\/em>this person in real life, let alone having a conversation with the nutter. <em>[cue intense shudder]<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And that\u2019s just the problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Too many of us are becoming addicted to the fabricated instancy of the online world.
