About Football Disconnected
Football Disconnected is a blog which aims to investigate whether or not the continual role that money plays in British football has created a disconnection between fans, traditional football culture and the modern game of football. The blog will aim to both educate and engage fans about subjects such as; Ticket prices, travel, merchandise, the role fans do or don’t play in club decisions, transfer fees, agents and ownership of clubs. The blog will also focus on the way in which social media has helped or hindered the game and the effects technology has had on the game.
About the author
I’m Sam Bray, a 22 year old student studying Media and Communication at Bournemouth University. I have always taken an interest in both watching and playing football and i’m a lifelong supporter of Newcastle United. Although I still watch a lot of football, I have almost fallen out of love with the game because of the growing influence of money seen throughout the sport. The common trend of club identities being thrown away and being replaced by what can only be described as businesses has developed an atmosphere among fans that they no longer matter and are merely a cash generator for owners who do not share the same level of passion as fans of the game do.
