Social media is an amazing resource when it comes to making a difference and it allows us to make changes an impact a lot faster and simpler than before.
Knot on my planet was/is a social media campaign to raise awareness and funds to protect elephants from hunting and the illegal obtaining and selling of ivory. Each year more than 30,000 elephants are slaughtered for their ivory, that’s one every 15 minutes. The elephant crisis fund, a coalition spanning across 23 countries, supporting 59 organisations and previously funded 114 projects to date, seeks an end to this cruelty. The campaign received a lot of celebrity attention including Gigi Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski who’s collective followers reachers of 4.5 million.
Knot On My Planet aimed to raise $15 million an achievable goal with the reach that they have and they are a perfect example at how social media can literally save lives. In theory the same power of charity and social media spreading could also be used to save other animals. While many celebrities support knot on my planet and other charities it is not just well known individuals who can make a difference
Making a change to the world we live on can be as simple as four steps:
- Make a connection- Educate yourself on some of the cruelty and injustice happening right now to both other living beings and the planet.
- Make a choice- whether it’s personal or you believe the most important choose a cause and a charity to support.
- Make a donation- Every penny you give makes a difference, whether it’s a little or a lot whatever you can give will help towards change.
- Make it public- While steps 1-3 are great they become even bigger once shared with the world. Through social media we can make good acts and awareness contagious.
