A Feminist can be male and female.. so no we don’t hate men.
If you’re reading this and you’re a modern day feminist, I bet you’re bored of the same questions and statements I get all the time, it was particularly in school where I had the most infuriating conversations with classmates. It’s just the typical statements such as ‘why don’t you just want equality instead?’ or ‘you can vote, you can drive, what else do you need?‘ (Well I wouldn’t mind equal pay or equality for women in all countries but is that being too greedy?) they really got me. For some reason a lot of people have the view that all feminists are angry at men and want women to be better off? Yeah I was confused with that one as well..
Feminism: ‘The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.’ (Oxford Dictionary)
Personally, I do not hate men at all. Yes, I do feel like woman have a lot of hardships and still do but I do not in any way, shape or form want women to be better off. Feminists want equality for men as well. I also bet a lot of people are bored with hearing us defending ourselves being feminists. but it apparently needs to be cleared up.
I think people fail to realise some of your favourite celebrities are feminists and they actually use their fame and power to promote feminism. Beyonce even used the subject in her song ‘Flawless’. Now I wish I could post Beyonce’s entire lyrics to this song (and not just because its’s a great song) but because I think its the epitome of female empowerment. So I’ll just leave a snippet here and I will leave the link to the video and lyrics below. I think people are so used to listening to music and whilst they may know the lyrics off by heart, they may not actually take the words in and these words are so important, so please do have a look!

Taylor Swift has spoken multiple times about feminism and the struggle with being a women in the music industry, however probably the most known time is where she was being interviewed on the red carpet and well, have a look at the video and see for yourself… (the first 30 seconds) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us1CudkeC4I
The daggers in Swifts’ eyes says it all, I was actually incredibly amazed by how calmly she responded to it?! I was furious with the assumption that because of her success with the awards (or her legs as the delightful interviewer mentioned) , that she would be going home with a man at the end of the night? Like she needed a man to go home with to complete her night? please.

Actor Patrick Stewart has openly spoken about seeing his mother being physically abused by his father when he was younger. He is now an advocate for domestic violence charities.
There are far more celebrity feminists than I even realised. Both male and female, from sport and music to acting etc all wanting equality for both sexes, So can we just begin with all agreeing with the meaning of the word feminist?
