Feminism Vs Meninism: Why do we need both?

I first heard of ‘Meninism’ when I saw several tweets off twitter accounts with the hashtag Meninism, they suddenly popped up out of nowhere and made me so angry. I (naively) thought that it was a positive movement with the same kind of things I believed Feminism was about. I was wrong, so very wrong. I saw a long lists of tweets basically making digs and poking fun at things feminists have said.

I have a love/hate relationship with free speech. Obviously everyone should be able to say what they want and most people can now because of social networking sites but sometimes when you see things like this, people making a joke out of the fact women had to fight to vote, it kind of gets too much.

Whether or not they were said in jest, does not change anything, they are downplaying the inequality of women.

I think that men deserve equality just as much as women. The ‘Man up’ campaign is fantastic, finally people are accepting and fighting for the social acceptance of men being ‘allowed’ to cry.

So that’s what I thought this ‘Meninist’ account would be about.

I know people have always questioned why Feminism is called that if it is for equality and I do get that but we also have to take in to account that women needed it first. We needed that vote to change everything else that was wrong in the world. It was the first step to equality and so women had to be the focus. Unfortunately no one ever questioned why the word female has male in it and yet the word male stands alone either.

I genuinely think that behind all of the social media, Meninism has a valid right to be a movement now. The real meninism, where subjects such as men crying, violence to men or unrealistic expectations of men etc. are spoken about.

I just don’t see why social networking sites have to ruin things like this, like it ruined feminism. Behind everything, all the jokes and memes, there are real urgent needs for these and yet because of social networking sites, men remain victims of domestic abuse and a woman can’t propose to her boyfriend without it emasculating him and leaving her looking desperate.

  5. I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to Dime Piece LA celebrity streetwear brand? I seem to be unable to check out on Dimepiecela site.
