So here it goes… my first blog. I understand that some blogs can be extremely boring so I will try my best to keep it as interesting and honest as possible, so bear with me. If the title hasn’t already got you guessing, my blog is about the issues of body image, self-esteem and the constant strive for young people to achieve perfection. I will then comment on the steps which some people decide to take in order to achieve this idea of “perfection”. This is an extremely current social issue which is being impacted by the internet and mobile communication, but specifically by social media platforms. By looking closely into social media in particular, I will begin to review and blog about how concerns for your appearance are made dramatically worse because of sites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, which celebrities use to parade their seemingly “perfect” lifestyles and flawless images. But before I start blogging about this, I should really tell you a bit about myself and who I am because lets be honest, no one wants to read a blog when they know nothing about the blogger.

My name is Danielle (but most of my friends call me Dani), I’m 20 years old and I currently go to Bournemouth University and study Communications and Media. I’m now in second year, and to say university has changed my life would be an understatement. Before I left for Bournemouth, my life was pretty boring. I come from a small town in the Midlands called Rugby, which if you didn’t know is near cities like Coventry, Leicester and Birmingham. But fear not, I DO NOT have a brummie accent 😉 I’m pretty sure I don’t have any accent, well not a strong one anyway. To sum up Rugby, the nightlife is awful, the shopping is even worse and the town is chav central. It didn’t take much convincing from my sisters and parents for me to move out of Rugby and start a new life at uni. Don’t get me wrong, leaving is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, especially leaving my sisters behind, but it’s also by far the best decision I’ve ever made and would encourage anyone thinking of going to take the plunge and do it.
I’m extremely close with my family, I have 2 sisters, one is 23 and the other is also 20 like myself – did I mention I have an identical twin? Having a twin is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because there is no one else in the world that knows me better than Susie, and a curse because… well, she knows me better than anyone so she knows exactly how to push my buttons! This means that I would die for her in a heartbeat while wanting to kill her at the same time. Oh and I forgot to mention, sharing a birthday = the worst part in having a twin. Always wondered what it would be like to have my own birthday. As for my other sister Lauren, she’s away travelling at the moment for 2 years but I hope to go visit her in Australia next year at some point.
Enough about me, by now I’m pretty sure you know the basics of what there is to know about me. From now on, I’ll post about numerous social issues related to body image and other similar things which I previously mentioned at the start. I hope you liked what you’ve read and will continue to read the rest of my blog as I add to it. Speak soon!
-Dani
P.S I also have Twitter and Facebook pages so feel free to check them out too and leave comments!
