The people have taken to social media to thank her personally. There is a trend at the moment on Facebook,\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Thank you Michelle Obama&#8221;<\/strong>.\u00a0Scrolling through\u00a0the endless posts, you understand the true appreciation people have for her and her efforts as First Lady.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I find there are so many negative things that we tend to focus on about \u00a0social media and the\u00a0impact it has had on society. Although in some ways this is true, we must\u00a0however recognize what good it can do. It is platform\u00a0to connect people. Her project <span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><a style=\"color: #ff99cc;\" href=\"https:\/\/letgirlslearn.gov\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Let Girls Learn&#8221;<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0focuses on young girls and the importance of their education<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0This initiative looks to give girls access to quality education that empowers them to reach their full potential. She stands as a mentor for young girls and she recognizes and encourages female leaders. She is a women&#8217;s woman. Women need\u00a0role models\u00a0like Michelle Obama as she believes in women\u2019s power to affect the bigger picture.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She inspires\u00a0women around the globe and sets their sights higher as she believes and understands the importance of education.\u00a0Her passion for girls education is motivation for girls, all in its own. She also practices what she preaches. She herself, is one of the 3 First Ladies to have a degree from Harvard Law School.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When Barak Obama addressed Michelle Obama said in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GG2Ckl5Jsg0\" target=\"_blank\">his farewell\u00a0speech<\/a>, he said &#8220;you took on a role you didn&#8217;t ask for, and you made it your own, with grace, grit, style and humour. You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody and a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Women\u00a0such as keen feminists Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Gloria Steinem as well as\u00a0actress Rashida Jones, wrote\u00a0thank-you letters\u00a0to Michelle Obama, which were published to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/17\/t-magazine\/michelle-obama-chimamanda-ngozi-adichie-gloria-steinem-letter.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times online magazine<\/a>. Enclosed in the letters are their stories of how she inspired them. They each reflect on how\u00a0Michelle Obama,\u00a0gracefully balanced her life in work, at home and as First Lady. Below\u00a0I pulled out a single quote from each of the letters. These spoke to me the most in terms of how I felt about Michelle Obama.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;She made \u201cfirst lady\u201d mean a person warmly accessible, a person both normal and inspirational and a person many degrees of cool.&#8221; &#8211; <\/em>Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Michelle Obama may have changed history in the most powerful way \u2014 by example.&#8221; &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>Gloria Steinem<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;If feminism\u2019s goal is equal opportunity and choice, Michelle makes me feel like every choice is available.&#8221;<\/em>&#8211;\u00a0Rashida Jones<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The media and social media has been an\u00a0important tool, in order for the public to have been able to connect with her on a greater level. Through\u00a0social media we have been able to get to know Michelle Obama directly. She says that by having had social media available to her\u00a0&#8220;people can see that I\u2019m kind of silly sometimes, that I care.
