As mentioned in my <a style=\"color: #808080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.buprojects.uk\/2016-2017\/abigailthomas\/2016\/12\/12\/clean-eating\/\"><span style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\">first blog post<\/span><\/a>\u00a0this trend demonises any other foods as \u2018unclean\u2019 and therefore \u2018dirty\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">This can lead to disordered eating as it unloads feelings of guilt onto people who don\u2019t eat restrictively. However, these \u2018dirty\u2019 by unqualified bloggers may be necessary as part of a nutritionally balanced diet.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">As stated by <span style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\"><a style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.varsity.co.uk\/features\/11684\">Coco Whittaker<\/a><\/span>, \u201c\u2018healthy\u2019 food is held up for display and approval\u2014 it is celebrated as an aesthetic object above all else.\u201c<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #789048;\">WHAT DOES HEALTH MEAN?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Those who eat clean\u00a0change their lifestyle with the aim of being healthy. But what does it mean to be healthy? The definition of health is the \u2018state of being free from illness or injury\u2019. Due to the vast amount of rules and guidelines, many eat cleaners deciding what food to cut out of their diet themselves.\u00a0In an interview,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\"><a style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/teens-at-risk-from-clean-eating-l0gtd9vc8\">Dr Mark Berelowitz<\/a><\/span> said \u201c80%-90% of his patients at the Royal Free Hospital in north London followed clean eating diets, which exclude sugar, meat, dairy products, carbohydrates and gluten.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-243\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.buprojects.uk\/2016-2017\/abigailthomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/117\/2017\/01\/pexels-photo-41123.jpeg\" alt=\"pexels-photo-41123\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blog.buprojects.uk\/2016-2017\/abigailthomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/117\/2017\/01\/pexels-photo-41123.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/www.blog.buprojects.uk\/2016-2017\/abigailthomas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/117\/2017\/01\/pexels-photo-41123-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Similarly, this lifestyle is frequently being used to mask eating disorders such as anorexia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><span style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\"><a style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/health-and-families\/health-news\/food-bloggers-promoting-clean-eating-diets-can-fuel-eating-disorders-in-teenage-girls-nutritionists-a7056291.html\">Fiona Hunter<\/a><\/span> a qualified consultant nutritionalist, &#8220;There&#8217;s a real concern that this\u00a0helps young women mask an underlying eating disorder. It&#8217;s more acceptable to say &#8216;I don&#8217;t eat gluten&#8217; than to say &#8216;I don&#8217;t want to eat that cake.'&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #789048;\">ORTHOREXIA\u00a0AND CLEAN EATING<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><span style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\"><a style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orthorexia.com\">Steven Bratman<\/a><\/span>\u00a0defined Orthorexia in 1996. It is the medical term for a condition of having an unhealthy obsession with maintaining\u00a0a healthy diet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The fixation of food quality and purity is a major part of clean eating. Long-term dangerous physical and psychological effects can be caused such as osteoporosis (linked to not having enough calcium in their diet) and<span style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\"> <a style=\"color: #5e5e5e;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21998605\">extreme cases<\/a> <\/span>of nutritional deficiencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Sufferers of Orthorexia develop\u00a0anxiety about where the next meal will come from, the ingredients and how it\u2019s cooked.
