Hi, I’m Libby Weston, the author of this blog. I’m currently an undergraduate communication and media student at Bournemouth University. This blog has been created as a reflection on how the web and mobile communication has affected, manipulated and distorted users. Not only online but the effect it has on their everyday lives. This is whether it be from influential images or perceptions, information from mass media or our own social media causing issues. Due to studying a media degree, this topic is overwhelmingly interesting to me. I hope that readers of my blog take notice of the things I have to say. I’m really hoping I can somehow make a change in the digital generation that is growing today.
WHY THIS TOPIC?
The reason I chose this topic is due to my interest in the digital world developing and innovating. I’ve been a part of social media over the years. I’ve seen first hand how it has the ability to adapt and change people. As a media student, I’ve noticed the way in which mass media outlets can so easily distort the way in which we receive and evaluate information. The topic for this blog is something I feel needs to be addressed. As web and communication grow, so does this topic. Whether it be for the good or bad, evolving online platforms allow anyone to create an online perception even if it isn’t accurate. There has been the creation of a whole new wave of digital distortion which must be brought to attention.
